The inaugural year of the fundraising campaign led by the dedicated graduate speech-language pathology students of CSDSOS has been a great success. With the generous support of students, staff and faculty within the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), the University community, the London community, family and friends we have raised over $5000 for Operation Smile. This achievement ensures that approximately 20 children in developing countries will receive the life-changing cranio-facial surgeries they so desperately need.

In addition to funds raised, the members of the CSDSOS team feel that the goals of raising awareness, s trengthening community involvement and establishing a long-term commitment to this cause have all been met. A firm foundation of commitment, enthusiasm and perseverance has been established so that further fundraising and promotion will lead to even greater accomplishments.

This initiative will be continued by a new group of upper year CSD students in speech-language pathology. The next team will be able to set new goals, foster further development, and maintain the support garnered in the first year of CSDSOS’s establishment.

CSDSOS and Friday Knight Lights are proud to present a Dueling Pianos performance in support of Operation Smile! This is a high energy, interactive show that gets the crowd up on its feet singing along and dancing while the expert pianists go head-to-head on two baby grand pianos. From classics to new favourites, these performers bang out their renditions of a variety of songs, take requests and swap good-natured jokes all night long!

Date: Thursday, April 2nd
Time: 8pm and continues all night
Tickets: $5 (can be purchased ahead of time or at the door)

Awesome door prizes are going to be raffled off - buy your tickets ahead of time and get entered into a very special draw!

Bring a friend…or two…or ten!! All proceeds go to Operation Smile!

CSDSOS will be hosting bake sales at Elborn College on Thursday March 26th and Thursday April 2nd from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM outside the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic. Please come out for some snacks between classes or on your lunch break. Cupcakes, brownies, cookies and cake - oh my! All proceeds go to Operation Smile!

Our first bake sale was a great success – thank you to all those who donated the baked goods and those that came out to eat!

This term we are asking our supporters to pay it forward! Our Smile for $5 Drive asks participants to “sponsor” a smile by asking 5 people to donate $5 to the campaign. Our hope is that each contributor will take the time to ask another 5 people, etc. We hope to track the cities that the donations come from so that we can see how far the smile stretches – let’s get this smile going from coast to coast!

By sharing your smile and asking your family and friends to share theirs, we can raise enough to give a child a brand new smile and a brand new life.

CSDSOS is currently celebrating the joyful and giving spirit of the holiday season by hosting some seasonal activities.

During the month of November, CSDSOS is holding a Holiday Craft Sale for faculty, staff and students at Elborn College (UWO). The School of CSD will also be taking part in a silent auction at the annual CSD holiday potluck, with all proceeds going to Operation Smile.

At this special time of year, we would like to thank all of the individuals, groups, families and businesses that have shown us support since the beginning of our campaign. The CSDSOS Team wishes everyone a happy and bright holiday season!

CSDSOS would like to thank all the families that joined us at Apple Land Station on Saturday, October 18th for face painting and craft activities! It was a beautiful fall day filled with creativity, smiling faces and happy families. Thanks to their generosity, we raised just over $140. This brings our grand total of funds raised to date up over $1000 – enough for four surgeries!

A special thank you to Apple Land Station for inviting us to spread the word about Operation Smile to their customers. We hope to see you there!

CSDSOS hosted a BBQ on September 29th at Elborn College, catering to the hungry students, faculty and staff at lunch time. Thanks to the many supporters who came out, our grand total of funds raised to date is now over $700!

Our kickoff BBQ and Nintendo Tournament was a huge success! With the help of the students, faculty, staff, and friends of CSD we raised over $380 – enough for 1.5 surgeries! This was a great start to our fundraising campaign and just the beginning of events to come.
